“Ram truck owners, whether civilian or military, are familiar with the ‘Built to Serve’ adage as it’s something we strive to build into every truck and van we produce,” said Mike Koval, Head of Ram Brand, FCA – North America. “Ram honours those who serve or have served with distinction.”

If your car has been sitting parked for a long period of time, it’s important to monitor it for certain maintenance items. Whether it’s an impact on your car’s reliability or its safety, you need to make sure you take care of your idle vehicle. These tips on how to care for your car while it sits idle will help you combat any long-term issues that can arise from not driving around town.
Keep an eye on your tires.
Your vehicle is heavy, which is why it should come as no
surprise that a vehicle sitting on its tires too long can actually ruin the
tires. When a car sits, flat spotting can occur on the tires. Flat spotting is
when the weight of your vehicle has flattened out a portion of your tire’s
rubber. Keep an eye out for this occurrence, and make sure you regularly check
your tire pressure.
Think about exterior protection.
If your car is parked in a garage, you don’t have to worry
about your exterior much. If you park your car outside, though, it’s important
to consider getting a waterproof cover to prevent your car’s paint job from
being damage. After all, over time your car’s exterior might accumulate things
like tree sap, water spots, and bird poop.
Check your battery.
Your battery can start to discharge over a long period of
idleness, leaving you with a dead battery. Make sure you don’t have to jump
start your car in the future and keep your battery working well. Consider
plugging it into a battery tender or disconnecting the battery.
Consider going on a short drive to nowhere.
Exercising your engine is a solid way to keep it in working
order. Consider taking your car on a simple, short drive around the block every
now and then to keep it in working order, or even take it on your weekly trip
to the grocery store if you absolutely have to go.
If your vehicle has a serious maintenance issue that needs expert attention, don’t hesitate to call us here at O’Connor Chrysler Dodge Jeep® Ram in Chilliwack.
