How to Program HomeLink®

Are you juggling with multiple garage door openers or other remote controls when you get home? Luckily, the HomeLink® system replaces up to three remote controls or handheld transmitters, allowing you to operate devices like garage-door openers, privacy gates, or home security systems directly from your driver’s seat. If you’re not sure how to program HomeLink, though, we’re here to help. Here are the steps you need to know to set up your HomeLink.

  1. Push and hold the two outside buttons until the LED indicator light flashes. Keep in mind that this can take up to 20 seconds to happen. This will erase all three HomeLink button programs, so only do it once – and don’t do it when adding additional HomeLink buttons
  2. Put the hand-held transmitter or remote control one to three inches away from the HomeLink surface, making sure that the HomeLink indicator light is still visible
  3. Use both hands and simultaneously press and hold the HomeLink button you want associated with your hand-held transmitter, while also pressing the desired button on the transmitter. Make sure you don’t release these buttons until the indicator light flashes slowly, then rapidly. Once the rapid flashing occurs, you can release the buttons since that means you have been successful
  4. Press and hold the HomeLink button you just programmed and observe the light. If the light is solid/continuous, then your device should work when the HomeLink button is pressed. If the light blinks rapidly for two seconds, then turns solid, then you need to proceed to the next steps

Only complete these steps if the indicator light blinks rapidly for two seconds, then turns solid:

  • At the motorhead unit in the garage, find the “learn” or “smart” button, which is usually near where the hanging antenna wire is attached to the unit. If you can’t find it, consult your garage door owner’s manual
  • Press and release this button, then return to your vehicle and firmly press and hold the trained HomeLink button for two seconds and release. Repeat this process sequence up to three times to complete the process.

How to Warm Your Car Up Quickly

Ram Chassis Cab with Snow Plow | How To Warm Your Car Up Quickly in Chilliwack, BC

Winter weather in BC can get harshly cold. When you have to make your morning commute, it can be difficult to want to leave your warm toasty house when you know you have to get into a cold car. To keep you cozy this winter, remember these tips on how to warm your car up quickly.

Turn on your ignition, but don’t start your engine. Doing this will help you get hot air quickly, since the engine will be primed. When the engine is primed, it will produce heat quickly.

Idle for a bit. Once your engine is primed, you want to idle your vehicle for about 30 seconds to a minute. This will help the heater core produce warm air.

Time to go. Driving your car will actually help it warm up faster. That’s because your engine will warm up, allowing more hot air to pass into your cabin. Modern vehicles usually only need about 30 seconds to warm up, so you won’t have to suffer in the cold long.

Think about where you’re pointing the hot air. When your car is finally warmed up, you want to direct the warm air at you and your passenger’s chest to help your bodies warm up quickly. Then, once you’re warm again, direct the heat toward your feet, since heat rises.

Celebrate with These New Year’s Resolutions for Drivers

New Year's Resolutions For Drivers In Chilliwack BC

On Jan. 1 every year, people around the world decide to take advantage of the New Year’s clean slate to set new goals for themselves. If you’re struggling to think of some resolutions for yourself this year, then why not consider improving your driving habits? Here are a few New Year’s resolutions for drivers that you should add to your list.

Don’t Drive Distracted

We all know that driving distracted is bad, but many people admit to still doing just that. From texting while driving to fiddling with the radio and eating snacks on the go, all of these distractions can make it difficult to keep an eye on the road. For 2020, make a resolution to prevent distracted driving. That means putting your phone away where it can’t distract you, waiting to eat until you get home, and using your car’s steering wheel-mounted controls to change your radio station.

Practice Safe Driving Habits

Along with not driving distracted, there are other safe driving habits that you should add to your resolutions list. Make sure you always buckle your seat belt, drive the speed limit, and make sure you don’t tailgate while driving. Also, remember to always use your turn signal to indicate where you’re going and drive defensively.

Keep Up With Your Car’s Maintenance

Life gets busy, which makes it hard to remember when you need to bring your car in for its routine maintenance. In the new year, strive to keep up with your car’s maintenance so it continues to run smoothly into the years to come.

O’Connor Chrysler Dodge Jeep® Ram wishes you a great (and safe) New Year’s. And remember to schedule your vehicle’s routine maintenance appointment, if you need new tires, an oil change, or a wheel alignment this winter.

Stay Safe With These Winter Driving Tips

Winter Driving Tips in Chilliwack BC

Highway road conditions throughout British Columbia in the winter can be unpredictable. With rapid elevation changes that lead to a mixture of snow, ice, sunshine, and rain, it’s important that you understand how to be ready for driving in any condition. These winter driving tips will help you better handle the cold months ahead.

Obey Winter Tire and Chain Signs

Throughout BC, you will find there are areas that require you to have either winter tires or chains. You shouldn’t go past these signs without the proper equipment. Instead, make sure you switch to your winter tires early on and consider driving with chains in your trunk to ensure you’re ready for anything.

Carry an Emergency Kit

You never know what might happen on the road ahead. Make sure you always carry an emergency kit with you while driving to ensure you’re not stranded in freezing temperatures without proper kit.

Drive for the Conditions

When winter weather affects road conditions, it’s important to drive intelligently. Increase the distance between you and the vehicle in front of you, slow down your speed to match the road conditions, and avoid sudden movements.

Know How to Handle Skidding

If you find yourself skidding on a slick road, don’t slam on the brakes and over-steer. Instead, gently ease off the accelerator or brake, then look and steer in the direction you want to head.

Ensure that your travels are safe ones this winter when you take your vehicle in for a service appointment here at O’Connor Chrysler Dodge Jeep® Ram.
